Library of Characters: Yvonne

Hey, all! I’m A.Y. Daniels: Christian, author, blogger, and horse-lover. When I’m not writing, expanding my mental database (*cough* learning), or hanging out with my family, I’m blogging, chatting with friends, or dreaming up stories I’ll probably never write. 😄

Last time I was here, I brought Genevieve in the Protagonist Collection! 😁

Introduce your side character to me—who is she? What story is she from?

It’s my pleasure to introduce Kaitlyn (Lyn) B. Fisher!

*Lyn waves shyly from a few feet away *

Lyn is my MC’s sister. She’s in What They Gave, a story that I formulated for the Seize the Fight anthology. I didn’t complete writing the story, but I hope its status of “incomplete” changes relatively soon. 😉

What is her personality?

*glances at Lyn *

As you can tell, she’s quiet. Very quiet. Hence the later lacking story quotes regarding her. 😜

Other than quiet, she’s quirky, thoughtful, observational, understanding, as well as quote, writing, and music obsessed.  When she makes up her mind, she doesn’t go back and stands firm. I can imagine she might come across as intimidating, but she also has a warmth and approachableness to her that cancels out that possible characteristic.

*Lyn mutters something *

Yes, I said that about you. C’mon, suffer a few minutes in the spotlight. You’ll live. And it’s training for–*cough *–uh… nevermind.

*She hesitantly steps up beside me *

Good girl. 😁

What gave/gives you inspiration for her?

I see a lot of myself in her. She really represents my view of reserved people, I suppose. I’ve known a few, and once you get to know them, they are creative, have a great sense of humor, and feel deeply.

And if you’d like some quotes . . . 😇

Was she supposed to be in the story, or was she a sudden I-have-no-idea-how-you-got-here addition?

Well, I knew I wanted Matt (my MC) to have twin sisters. I didn’t realize how deep and important she would be to this story or the sequel.

What is her role in the story?

As stated above, she’s Matt’s sister. 😉

As for her role in Matt’s character arc,  she’s pretty much there to add to Matt’s pain, but also to prod him towards the healing he needs from God.

*Lyn steps back from beside me–one of her nervous habits. *

Due to Kaytlin’s twin taking the side-character spotlight of What They Gave, I don’t have a quote that introduces her well. 😜 Sorry.

What is her past and how has it shaped the character she is now?

Oh, this poor girl. Kaitlyn might disappear after this… *eyeballs her *

Her mother died rather early in her life–about the time she was two. When she was four, her father was killed while deployed. The three children (Matt, Rebekah, and her) are taken in by their dad’s friend, but when their guardian becomes a drunkard, Matt decides to take his sisters across the country when Kaitlyn is 12.

*a sigh from several feat back is heard *

Sorry, Lyn. Anyway, despite her hard past, she’s usually a bundle of hope and joy.

What is her greatest struggle or fear?

She’s afraid of being too much of a burden to her brother and sister to be worth keeping. She struggles seeing her value, the worth of her work, and her purpose in life.

Yeah, she’s not exactly the picture of confidence.

Is she a vice or virtue to the protagonist?

A virtue, though memories of her past suffering plague Matt’s mind with pain. She wouldn’t dream of being a bother to her brother beyond the boundaries of natural sibling fun. She hates hurting people.

Does she like her name, or would she trade anything in the world for a new one?

*Lyn finally smiles *

She likes it. 😁 It’s unique, sounds perky, and one of her ties to her parents.

“Why is that unrealistic?” Matt doused a biscuit with gravy. “Lots of orphans get adopted into good families.”

“But lots of others don’t. Some kids have to suffer through half-caring families until they’re old enough to leave. And by that time, they’re too old to be raised. Which means they live with scars and wounds.”

Like us. The thought stabbed him like a pin.

Character Appearance: Hair? Eyes? Height? Favorite color and least favorite food? Other?

Dirty blonde, milky brown eyes, a touch on the short side (5’5”).

Brown is her favorite color, and her least favorite foods are peppers and mushrooms.

Other? 🤔Hum, hum, hum …

Anything you have to say for yourself, Kaitlyn? Come, come. Speak loud and proud into this mic right here.

“Hi. Um… I like writing. That quote above came from a conversation I had with Matt. He found out I wrote, and I told him I wrote stories about orphans. I like writing about kids finding homes, because that’s sort of what has happened to me.”

And that’s where I have to cut you off, Lyn. 🙃 Lucy doesn’t want spoilers. 😜

Kaitlyn, adorable in her brown flannel and her blonde-streaked hair thrown up in a messy bun, was surrounded by thrift store books and her few pots of plants. Lost in the music from her headphones and gazing out the window before her, Matt  concluded her to be the picture of absolute contentment.

Thanks for having us! *turns to Kaitlyn * All right. Time for your dreams to come true. We get to go home now.

*Lyn erupts in excited squeals *

*whispers back at crowd * She doesn’t intend to be rude, honest. 😅
