I wasn’t planning on posting this spotlight until next week, but Ronan seems to have a strange way of getting all the attention possible as soon as possible.
So… welcome to the second character spotlight for my upcoming story, When the Stars Shine Again.
Everyone, meet Ronan.
Appearance: Very short and skinny, with huge brown eyes and curly brown hair.
Age: Around 5 or 6-ish.
Introverted or Extraverted: Um… hard to tell with this little boy. 😂 One moment he’s hiding from the world and anyone in it, the next he’s a bundle of energy and everyone’s best friend.
Personality: Sweet, energetic, shy, and innocent.

Ronan kind of came out of nowhere in this story. I had needed a young side character for a very short scene, and suddenly Ronan was there, stealing more and more scenes and connections left and right. I can’t say much about him due to spoilers, but he’s completely stolen my heart and I absolutely love writing him.
I have absolutely no idea what his name means, and I do not care. I just saw it somewhere and used it because it fit Ronan so perfectly. 😇
I’ve only written two complete scenes with him, but he wedges his way into every single spot possible, so I know I’ll be writing much more with him. 😆 He has the sweetest little heart, and when he [SPOILER] [SPOILER], all he cares about is making everyone around him as happy as possible. Ronan’s the type of little boy that will run screaming from a spider, but will stand up to even the biggest of bad guys if it means ‘protecting’ someone he loves.

The boy stood shakily in front of her, both of his hands reaching up to wrap around her arm. His mop of matted dark hair barely came to her elbow as he stared up at her, his eyes wide.
Wren stilled, her gaze captured by his.
She hadn’t known it was possible for someone to look so… innocent. So pure. Even when dimmed by hardship and pinched with hunger, the tiny boy’s dark eyes shone with light.
Wren blinked hard, sucking in a breath.
A large shadow, nearly as dark as the ones on her arms, splotched across one half of his face, forever marking him undoubtedly as one of the Unwanted.
The boy wobbled and she grabbed his shoulders, slowly lowering him to the ground and sitting down next to him.
The boy instantly pulled his knees up to his chest, wrapping his scrawny arms around himself and peering hesitantly at her over them.
Wren met his stare, biting her lip. “What’s your name?” She asked haltingly, racking her brain for more words. What am I supposed to be doing?
The boy wiped a grimy hand across his face, curling in on himself as he slowly whispered, “R-Ronan.”
Wren gave him the best smile she could, shifting to her knees. “Hello, Ronan.”
Ronan ducked behind his crossed arms, a flicker of something she couldn’t recognize crossing his face.
“How…” Wren frowned, digging through faint memories in an attempt to figure out what people had said to her when she was a young child, innocent and unmarred by the Mist. “How old are you, Ronan?”
Ronan wrinkled his tiny forehead, squeezing his eyes shut as if he were pondering the greatest secrets of the Knowledge Guild. “Uh…”
A loud ruckus interrupted him, echoing down the narrow space and followed closely by loud footsteps.
Wren jumped, her gaze jerking up and towards the crumbled entry to the alley.
The footsteps grew closer and Ronan squeaked, grabbing her arm and curling up behind it. Wren froze at the touch, staring down into his huge, scared eyes. What…
