First. I seem to not be the best at blogging when I’m not in the works of publishing a book. Hm. 🤔 Sorry about that. 😂
Second. I’ve realized that—well yes, I say I’m a writer, and I have mentioned a few of my published works off hand…aside from WtSSA, I have never really touched on anything that I write.
Welp, that’s about to change.
And what better way to introduce you all to what I write than with my characters! So without further ado…They can take it away with my published works…
When the Stars Shine Again.
A tiny elvish boy runs up, bouncing up and down with barely-contained excitement. “Oh! Oh! It’s even cooler than she said it would be!”
A young elf maid rushes in after him, sweeping him up and onto her hip. “Ronan, what did your brother tell you about running off like that?” She glances around, noticing her surroundings for the first time. “Oh…we’re—we’re here.”
An elvish man rounds out the group, chuckling as the girl ducks behind him. “It’s not that bad. Look—we’re alone.”
“Okay…” Wren peeks out, nibbling on her lip. “What…what are we doing here again?”
Ronan wriggles in her arms until she sets him down. “I know! She said to talk about our story. And about us.”
“Why in the Ailnirha did she tell you all the details…” Zandier shakes his head, running a hand through his hair. “Okay, then…uh…apparently it’s our author’s debut work? And…it’s about us, I suppose? And Ailnirha?”
“It’s not really about us,” Wren says softly, “it’s about Po’ali. About how He brought hope and light into the Unwanted, and destroyed the Black Mist’s hold over us. And…and about how He brought love to those who didn’t think they were worthy of it.” She ducks her head, slipping back behind Zandier.
Ronan abandons his inspection of the rug, turning to them both. “And it’s about stars,” he says softly, his voice full of awe.
Then, without warning, he whirls around and races into the library.
Two voices meld into one as Zandier and Wren chase after him. “Ronan!”
“Everything” and “In the Midst.”
“Come on, Megs.” Arthur Walters shuffles forward, quickly adjusting his grip on his crutches as one catches on the rug. He glances around, eyeing the rows of bookshelves and modern furniture. “It’s fine. No one’s watching—I think.”
Maggie Walters slowly inches into view, biting her lip. “First we find out we have authors, now we have to go talk to people that might read about us?” She shakes her head, her carefully done-up curls swishing around her chin. “This is a bit much.”
Arthur grins. “I hope they all get to read about that one time whe—”
“Arthur Walters!” Maggie gasps, her face going crimson. “That was the twins’ fault and you know it. Besides…I think our first story was set around…” she grimaces, “you know.”
“How…lovely.” Arthur glances down at his missing right leg. “I can’t wait to read it.”
Maggie shudders and shakes her head again. “Let’s just get on with it, shall we?” She forces a smile, glancing around the small space. “Somehow…we’re the main characters of two WW2 short stories written by Lucy and her best friend. Everything—set around Operation Pied Piper and about…well…how everything seems to be falling apart.”
“And In the Midst,” Arthur finishes for her. “Around two years later—apparently time moves a lot faster for us than it does for you readers—about finding joy in the midst of trials.”
Maggie raises an eyebrow, tilting her head. “And you can find the stories in two KDWC anthologies—whatever those are—in the new My Books page here.”
“For the Undeserving.”
The siblings are replaced by another brother-sister pair.
Damian glances around, a grin slowly spreading across his face. “Hey, it’s another book place. Bigger, too. You think we could play hide-and-seek in it?”
Michelle facepalms. “Dai, no. We are not messing around with something created by the author who has full power to do ANYTHING she wants with us.”
Damian raises an eyebrow, inching away. “Aw, come on, Chell! It’ll be fun. Besides, she can’t do that much.”
“Two words. Car crash.”
“Okay…never mind.” Damian pales, rubbing his leg. “I do not want to relive that.”
Michelle sighs. “Then we should probably get a move on with what we’re here for.”
“Which is…?”
“Dai.”
“Oh, yeah. Right.” Damian grins. “Hey, look, folks! We’ve been published! If you want to read all about our heroic adventures, check out the Seize the Moment anthology.”
“Heroic.” Michelle snorts. “Last I remember, our story is about when you almost got us both caught by those junk-yard guards, you ended up knocking yourself out, I had a temper tantrum, and we nearly gave up on each other. And…mercy, but that doesn’t come until the end.”
“Hey, but they don’t know it.”
“They do now.”
“Patriots’ Cause.”
*Glances around*
Sorry folks, William seems to have disappeared since he was published. I don’t know why. 🤔
Patriots’ Cause is a short story about two Redcoat brothers who run into a group of patriot soldiers and learn there is much more to the American Revolution than they thought.
You can find it in the Seize the Fight anthology.
The Light Out of Darkness Trilogy—formerly known as The Seven Countries.
Well, I promised a long time ago that I would talk about TSC.
I currently have one and a half of the three novels written, but am about to go back and completely rewrite book one. New ideas have struck that are going to make it SO much better. 😎
It features three Main Characters—Weylin, Aideen, and Jasira—who would have come to talk about their stories in this post, but they’re currently all stuck in book two. And totally having the time of their lives.
Currently sitting at around 80k words, TSC has a lot of growing to go, but I’m so excited to implement the new ideas and make book one even longer. Even if that means it’ll still be a few years until I can start publishing the trilogy.
And…a bit about the story. WtSSA is actually it’s prequel, covering some backstory that is quite important to the plot. And the Black Mist from the aforementioned novella has come back, this time under the “control” of a very twisted and powerful human, who is using it to slowly build his empire.
The trilogy is like its name. Light vs. Darkness. All three MCs come from backgrounds of darkness, and they’re all fighting to figure out the truth about Po’ali, and whether or not His light can really defeat the Mist.
And finally, I have two completely top secret projects: [CLASSIFIED] and [REDACTED]. (I actually have a ton of random side-projects too, but none of them are important enough to be worth mention in this very long post. 😂)
Much to certain characters’ delight and dismay, [CLASSIFIED] will be officially revealed to the world in just a few days. Until then, though…nope, not a word on it.
*Pushes back a character or two as they try and get past me into the room.*
[REDACTED] will be my little secret for quite awhile to come, though. So…we’ll just refer to it as “Secret Project” until I can unveil it.
So! Have you read any of the published stories the characters introduced? If not, which one looked the most interesting?
And should I write another of these posts sometimes to introduce my random side-projects and their crazy characters? 🤔😂
