Book Review: Of Sea and Smoke

If you want to get me ranting about a book, slide a certain book two to the Fireborn Epics in front of me.

Of Sea and Smoke, by Gillian Bronte Adams, was such an amazing book. It’s been quiet a long time since I’ve found a story that’s completely captivated me with suspense, and hit me hard with so many emotions, but Of Sea and Smoke completely pulled through with it all.

PLOT:

It felt like it would never end in the absolutely best way possible. Adams crafted so many little twists and exciting points throughout the story, punctuated by the sweetest and funniest scenes, that the book is impossible to stop reading. I would have willingly spent weeks with these characters, but sadly, the plot was so engaging I finished the book within a day and a half. And the ending… *cries*

CHARACTERS:

Ehem. This is the point where the review could last for decades.
I didn’t think it was possible for Rafi to be anymore my favorite than he was last time. Apparently it was. His story keeps getting more and more complex and bittersweet, and his humor made me audibly laugh more than once.
Ceridwen managed to grow on me a lot more than she did in the previous book. Her arc was fascinating, her struggles as intense as her personality, and her growing friendships with some characters were so fun to read.
Jakim… well, somehow I managed to guess the main part of his plot before I ever even read Of Sea and Smoke. But that didn’t stop it from being better than I thought it could be.

VIOLENCE/WATCH OUT:

There is violence such as war, battles, death, wounds, blood. But none of it was overdone. One of the villains was alluded to doing something that sounded kind of creepy and dark, but it wasn’t mentioned in detail.

ROMANCE:

Again, there are some hints of what could be a blossoming romance between two of the characters. Nothing detailed.

Overall, Of Sea and Smoke was an incredible book. Full of suspense, humor, heartache, and great characters. The perfect second edition to the Fireborn Epics.

* I received a free ARC in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to give a positive review, and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Seriously. This book was so good. And I can’t believe there’s only about a month and a half until Of Sea and Smoke releases to the public!

Preorder it now, and you’ll get it right around release day, with no extra wait!
