You step through the library, scanning the shelves for your favorite books.

As you walk down the long rows, resisting the temptation to ride the rolling ladder, you note that the library is well stocked. The best books in all your favorite genres line the walls, stretching upwards until they would have been hopeless to try and reach for without the aforementioned ladder.

You slip into a section under the sign WIPs, and take a right at the shelf labeled Spies. Most of the manuscripts around you seem unfinished, bursting from their narrow covers with the never-ending ideas of a young author.

Titles you don’t recognize catch your eye. Home Now; Sincerely, M.P.; To Save the World. All stories woven from the same young author’s imagination, just waiting for their chance to be revealed to the world.

A few other books catch your eye, all gathered in a small stack beside a large computer screen.

Odd.

As you step closer, your interest piqued, the lights flicker, then go out, thrusting you into darkness.

You jump, but barely a second passes before the screen lights up, dark red letters lending a smidgen of light to the now pitch-black room.

One word scrolls across the screen.

CONFIDENTIAL.

Then, two more.

Codename: Chickadee.

And just like that, a digital file opens, filling the screen.

CODENAME: CHICKADEE

Agents Wardrobe Seeker, Caffeinated Pirate, Untitled Manuscript, Wordy Lime, and Talking Horse have been given a mission.

Protect KDWC from the growing reach of the WB.

At first, it seems easy. Who doesn’t love a adrenaline-filled mission or two? Especially when your best friends are the ones watching your back.

But with every move, every mission, the WB waits a step ahead.

Tangled webs of secrets and lies lay a trap for them around every turn. Slowly, a team brought together by a devastating betrayal find the tables turned as twisting loyalties start to drive them apart.

Originally started as a joke, chronicling the story of five captured writers and their fight against the villainous spy group, Writers Block, the Codename: Chickadee series is now…not so much of a joke. With plenty of intrigue, writing humor, suspense, plot twists, and even some pretty emotional scenes, Codename: Chickadee is shaping up to be an epic collection of books.

The full series is currently in the works, with no confirmed publication date.

But this spring, in four short stories by Elisabeth Joy, Lucy Peterson, Bree Pembrook, and Alaina Johnson, the five young agents are making their slightly-crazy debut to the world.

They call themselves the Chickadees.

Five girls, each with their own ghosts. The misfits, the underdogs, the nobodies—risen from the ashes of a crumbling KDWC and thrust into a world of advanced espionage. Their mission? To protect their agency from further tragedy.

They have no clue why they were the ones chosen for their roles. No clue how to keep their team from failing. No clue how to live up task to the bestowed upon them.

Everything is against them.

But they won’t go down without a fight.
