Once upon a time, a very young writer sat down to write her first fantasy novel. A lot of hopes and dreams rested on those opening pages. Hundreds of other books had filled her imagination, and now it was overflowing with the need to create. To form her own worlds and help others find their hopes and dreams.
Surprisingly, she actually finished that novel…and learned that she probably needed to figure out the story plots before she wrote them. Also—she had a knack for writing about the stars.
So. She tried to create another story.
And another.
And another.
Five years later, that young writer had a daunting task in front of her. Pick a short story to publish one day with part of her graduating class from her writing collage. When faced with publication, that fountain in her imagination dried up and hid—so she turned to something she knew she could write.
The stars.
And she knew she had to face the unknown (aka publishing) to achieve her dreams, so—with a backdrop of starlight—that became her theme.
Along came a theater, where her dramatic side belonged. Talking animals, like some of the first fantasy books she ever read. Phantoms, because she’s crazy and likes to be creeped out.
(And turns out, she wrote a few too many pages about the stars. Thank goodness for edits.)
A year passed.
A lot of things happened.
That short story joined twelve others in a beautiful collection…and now, that one day is today.

Featuring my short story, All That Flickers:
Alexander became a magical lantern technician to follow his twin into the theatre without the risk of the dimly-lit floating stages. Single-handedly lighting a performance at the notorious Hantée Brume will guarantee his place with her troupe, away from the dark heights.
…until the magic of the lanterns dies out, smothered by the Hantée Brume’s shadows.
As the only one who knows how to refill the magic, Alexander and his talking owl must brave the darkened backstage—and the phantoms wandering the halls…

“I loved this story! The writing was beautiful, and the characters felt full and alive even in their limited screen time.”
~ M.P.
“All that Flickers is perhaps the most atmospheric story I have read in a long time. Between vivid descriptions, loveable characters, and a goal worth cheering for this is a story you won’t want to miss. I read it months ago and the imagery still comes to mind sometimes.”
~ Heather S.
